Of Counsel
James Potter joins the G&G team, bringing with him more than two decades of combined engineering and patent-law experience. He has extensive experience preparing and prosecuting U.S. and international patent applications for Fortune 500 companies, global technology leaders, and emerging startups. Before joining the firm, he served as Patent Counsel at Renaissance IP Law, where he led prosecution and portfolio strategy across electrical, software, semiconductor, wireless, cloud, cybersecurity, and AI technologies. His prior roles include Senior Patent Counsel at Ofinno, managing standard‑essential patent families for cellular and wireless communications, and nearly a decade as Senior Patent Attorney at Holland & Hart, where he oversaw major portfolios—including Symantec’s cybersecurity portfolio—and handled complex prosecution, appeals, continuation strategy, and opinion work.
Earlier in his career, he worked as Patent Counsel for Wind Lift Technologies and as a Patent Agent at Holman IP Law, supporting domestic and international patent portfolios and advising engineering teams on invention development and protection.
Prior Professional Experience:
He began his professional career as an engineer, designing high‑speed Ethernet networking hardware and mission‑critical avionics electronics for the Department of Defense, experience that provides a strong technical foundation for his patent practice.
